Spring 2018 Undergraduate Internships - DC

The Brennan Center for Justice at New York University School of law is a non-partisan public policy and law institute that focuses on the fundamental issues of democracy and justice. Our work ranges from voting rights to campaign finance reform, from racial justice in criminal law to Constitutional protection in the fight against terrorism. A singular institution - part think tank, part public interest law firm, part advocacy group - the Brennan Center combines scholarship, legislative and legal advocacy, and communications to win meaningful, measurable change in the public sector.

We are seeking interns to provide research and administrative support for staff in our Washington, DC office.

Responsibilities: Interns assist with general administrative and clerical work for the Brennan Center, including filing, photocopying, answering phones, shipping and mailing, coordinating meetings, and drafting routine correspondence. In addition to administrative work, interns conduct research on a wide range of issues in both our Democracy and Justice programs; write blog posts for our website; accompany staff to meetings on the Hill; and assist in outreach to the press. One intern may focus primarily on our Liberty and National Security project.

Qualifications: Interns must have a passion for social justice and excellent written and verbal communication skills. The ideal candidates are independent, detail-oriented self-starters that are energetic and highly organized. Experience with Windows 2000/XP, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word is a must. Interns must be open to evolving responsibilities.

Hours: 15-25 hours per week

Duration: One semester

Pay: $12.50 per hour or school credit

To Apply: Please visit http://brennancenter.applytojob.com/apply and upload (preferably in pdf) your cover letter, resume, and a list of contact details for three references. In your cover letter, please specify the department that most interests you.  No phone calls, please.

The deadline for application is December 15, 2017. However, candidates will be considered on a rolling basis and decisions made as soon as appropriate candidates are identified.

This internship is only open to current undergraduate students.

The Brennan Center, an equal opportunity, affirmative action employer, is strongly committed to diversity and welcomes applicants of all races, ethnicities, genders, and sexual orientations, gender identity and expression, including people who have been previously incarcerated.
