Digital Strategist
The Brennan Center for Justice at NYU School of Law is a nonpartisan law and policy institute that seeks to improve the systems of democracy and justice in the United States. We work to hold our political institutions and laws accountable to the twin American ideals of democracy and equal justice for all. The Brennan Center’s work ranges from voting rights to campaign finance reform, from ending mass incarceration to preserving Constitutional protections in national security policies. Part think-tank, part advocacy group, part cutting edge communications hub, we start with rigorous research. We craft innovative policies. And we fight for them – in Congress and the states, in the courts, and in the court of public opinion.       
Position Overview: 
The Brennan Center seeks a Digital Strategist to join our communications team. The ideal candidate is a creative and proactive digital professional who combines hands-on experience with email and digital advertising platforms, strong project management skills, and a passion for democracy and justice. 
This role is multi-faceted and will support team members across key digital channels — email, paid social and ad platforms, and the website — while contributing to rapid message-testing and metrics reporting that inform the Brennan Center’s digital strategy. The Digital Strategist will collaborate closely with colleagues across communications, editorial, media, and design teams. The Digital Strategist has strong skills in writing, project management, and interpersonal collaboration.  
The Digital Strategist is an individual contributor role reporting to the Digital Director. 
 
Note: This position is based at our headquarters in New York City.
Responsibilities: 
Supports the production and deployment of email campaigns and newsletters, owning at least one regular recurring newsletter send.
Manages timelines and deliverables, coordinating with designers, writers, and program staff to ensure on-time delivery of newsletter deployments.
Assists the email team in check-listing email drafts for accuracy.
Supports in-house digital advertising on Meta and other self-serve ad platforms.
Monitors ad campaign performance and makes recommendations to improve results through optimizations to targeting, creative, and other tactics.
Collaborates with content strategy lead to develop ad creative, write short-form copy, and adapt assets for various audiences.
Provides backup support for the Brennan Center website, including owning special projects and developing campaign landing pages as needed.
Serves as the lead for a subset of rapid message/content impact testing using Swayable and Grow Progress.
Leads the creation of quarterly metrics reports that track performance across channels and surfaces insights on channel and content performance.
Drafts and distributes memos and reports with key takeaways for internal and external communication.
Participates in cross-team brainstorms and strategy meetings.
Collaborates with communications and program staff to identify high-impact opportunities to increase the visibility of our programmatic work and to generate web traffic, email list growth, social media followership growth, advocacy action conversions, and brand visibility.
Assists with weekend social media publishing as part of a rotating coverage schedule.
Assists with rapid response, special projects, and other digital communications needs as they arise.
Experience and Qualifications: 
A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience, and 3-6 years of related experience.
Strong track record of running digital advertising campaigns in Meta and other self-serve ad platforms, including implementing pixels and tags
Experience producing newsletters and email campaigns
Excellent writing skills, ideally with some experience creating written news and politics content
Intermediate knowledge of HTML and CSS
Drupal experience is a plus
Swayable, GrowProgress, or another rapid message testing tool experience is a plus
Ability to multitask, perform well under pressure, and meet tight deadlines
Excellent oral and written communication and persuasion skills, the ability to advocate for new approaches based on learnings
An individual contributor who can work as part of a team and independently under limited supervision
Agency or campaign experience is a plus

Compensation and Benefits:   
The Brennan Center is a fantastic workplace! We offer competitive salaries and a comprehensive benefits package that is regularly assessed based on workplace trends and employee feedback.  
The salary range assigned to this position is $95,000 - $105,000. We determine our salary ranges based on market competitiveness and internal equity for each job. The salary offered to a selected candidate will be contingent upon the candidate’s qualifications and internal equity considerations. Additionally, we offer a generous time off program, 401k plan, comprehensive health insurance (medical, dental, and vision), and wellness and office perks.   
In addition, this position is part of a bargaining unit represented by the National Organization of Legal Services Workers, UAW local 2320.
