The Brennan Center for Justice at NYU School of Law is a nonpartisan law and policy institute that seeks to improve systems of democracy and justice in the United States. We work to hold our political institutions and laws accountable to the twin American ideals of democracy and equal justice for all. Brennan Center’s work ranges from voting rights to campaign finance reform, from ending mass incarceration to preserving Constitutional protection in the fight against terrorism. Part think tank, part advocacy group, part cutting edge communications hub, we start with rigorous research. We craft innovative policies. And we fight for them – in Congress and the states, the courts, and in the court of public opinion.
The Brennan Center seeks a dynamic communications strategist to work with our Media & Strategic Engagement team at the organization’s New York headquarters, a section of the Communications & Strategy department.
One of the Brennan Center’s primary goals is driving the national conversation around issues of democracy and justice. The strategist will partner with attorneys, researchers, advocates, and campaigners to design and implement comprehensive communications plans around the Center’s marquee reports and litigation. The role requires a keen sense of the news cycle, powerful writing skills, and experience working with high-impact journalists at the country’s most important publications.
As part of a growing media relations team, the strategist will work with program staff at the earliest stages of project conception and planning. Reporting to the national media director, s/he will craft and carry out robust media relations plans targeting national and regional audiences, all with the goal of helping shape public opinion and build momentum behind our work. Specific duties will include:
